I assume you're referring to the King, who was obviously safe across the ocean, though if he'd been within reach during the revolution he'd certainly have been a target. Regardless, those who stood with him, such as Butler's Rangers, were certainly among the oppressors as well, and many were indeed gunned down in battle, or after the war was won if they didn't either flee to Canada or change their loyalty to the people of the new country.
