GrapheneOS devs from what I've seen is still pretty lib in a way that would effect chances of a Chinese phone getting it.

That may or may not be true (I don't know his opinions), but he has some basic hardware requirements that almost no phones meet - including being able to re-lock the bootloader with custom keys, which AFAIK excludes all Xiaomi phones.
