I got curious about how bad Hexbear was according to sh.itjust.works and told myself "i should document it and make a post about it if it's really that bad"

Admittedly, I was part of the 2023 Reddit migration to Lemmy. Spun up my own server and invited some friends. One of them bought into the idea that the Lemmy devs were “red fasc”, their source was a Raddle post they found on Reddit lol.

So I read that thread and saw Hexbear mentioned specifically, said “lol that place feels like the old internet minus the bigotry”, so I joined. I was not disappointed and have been here ever since.

Same but without starting my own server. I was on another account after the reddit migrations from them shutting down the apps, and then I ended up making one here because despite fighting with hexbear about the Russian-Ukraine war or China, I realized I basically agreed with them about everything else.

It made me ask what made them take the stance they did on those things we disagree about, I realized it was more nuanced than I thought, they weren't just Russia lovers, and I ended up making an account here and then this slowly became my main lol.
