Depends how pedantic you want to be. A large portion of Russian land is in Asia.

    Is it more important what percentage of their population is past the Urals or how 'savage foreign enemy' tropes are being used?

    It's probably more important if Putin the actual person is actually Asian or not. And he isn't lol he is of Russian ethnicity and born in Europe to Russian parents who were also born in Europe.

    Through conquest and colonial exploits though. That's like saying Macron is South American because French Guiana exists. Putin was born and raised in St Petersburg; a historically Finnic territory if anything
