They likely just imported one of the common blocklists and moved on with their lives, which really should be "how to secure your community 101" but most Lemmy admins haven't seem to have gotten the memo yet. Feel free to pick a tier depending on the community you're building. Tier0 is basically "the bare minimum" but you may want the others depending on the community you're building up. There is no reason why they can't defederate from everyone when they build their community. The people that dont like it will just move away. The sore spot is that people thought it was breaking Lemmy for a week. They found the platform and for some reason people are mad at them for doing it. Their goal is to create a small safe and welcoming place.
