I’ve noticed industry on here several times. At least on this issue they seem more interested in stirring the pot than genuine discussion. They consistently clip quotes and videos just outside of relevant context then deny there is any when others call for it. When confronted with the context by others they deny that it changes anything at all. permalink fedilink source parent [+] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world [S] -6 points 2 years ago (4 children) https://www.commondreams.org/news/bernie-sanders-fight-oligarchy-rallies Pro-Palestine attendees of the Idaho rally were quickly removed by security after unfurling a Palestinian flag. This prompted Sanders—who has been criticized by Palestine defenders for his early refusal to endorse a cease-fire in Gaza as Israel launched its genocidal assault there and, later, by Israel backers for introducing legislation to ban U.S arms sales to the key ally—to declare that Israel "has the right to defend itself". permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Awkwardly_Frank@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago (3 children) to declare that Israel "has the right to defend itself" but "does not have the right to wage all-out war against the Palestinian people." Or is that "my job is to keep the left pro-Israel" Sanders doing it? No, Israel Does Not Have the Right to Self-Defense In International Law Against Occupied Palestinian Territory Occupation Law prohibits an occupying power from initiating armed force against its occupied territory. By mere virtue of the existence of military occupation, an armed attack, including one consistent with the UN Charter, has already occurred and been concluded. Therefore the right of self-defense in international law is, by definition since 1967, not available to Israel with respect to its dealings with real or perceived threats emanating from the West Bank and Gaza Strip population. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Awkwardly_Frank@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 child) My friend, I literally just finished the paragraph you were quoting directly from the source you provided.
