Posts should be a a Proposal (idea for changing the site), Feedback (regarding non-technical aspects of the site, for technical please use https://hexbear.net/c/feedback), or Appeals (regarding admin/moderator actions).
Discussion regarding these will be within comments under the post, appeals and feedback that is resolve may be removed as well as duplicate posts.
The following behavior will result in mod action:
People that are frequently making vague posts or comments.
People that are hostile, taking the least charitable interpretation or engaging in bad-faith
People that are maliciously trying to stir up drama
I think y'all are way too comfortable with banning a comrade in otherwise good standing from the site for all time based on a single day's series of interactions where they said something wrong or got heated or defensive. I think the same goes for removing comments or temp bans when someone says something a particular mod disagrees with.
We all have bad days, we all make mistakes, we all have bad takes, and not everything requires mod action.
The attitude I see mods repeatedly voice to justify banning a comrade for all time is that they can just make an alt so w/e. Can you imagine a community you get significant psychic peace from all telling you they never want to see or talk to you ever again and your first response is to go buy a disguise so you can go join the group again?
(I also think requiring temp bans to post in c/selfcrit is psychotic. Being banned or even just being flamed on the boards is humiliating enough, and people learn from those experiences. Forcing the users to engage in this humiliating public process feels like an abuse of power.)
I just wish y'all were more comfortable doing nothing sometimes.
What really?
Mods explicitly said @PM_ME_YOUR_FOUCAULTS@hexbear.net could return if they post on c/selfcrit and I've seen it in the modlog for other bans yeah
I'm curious, have any of the tempbanned users actually come back and posted on self crit? I know Foucault and GarbageShoot didn't, but has anyone else? Also, Frogman got unbanned, no selfcrit necessary? Despite the initial perma? IDK if something happened in backchannels, not trying to say I disagree one way or the other, but the behavior here seems inconsistent.
as mentioned in other comments we have removed any requirement to post in selfcrit the community is voluntary only
So can @PM_ME_YOUR_FOUCAULTS@hexbear.net come back then?
reading between the lines of what has been said about the incident that led to banning Foucaults, it sounds like a disagreement behind the scenes about moderation descended into an argument that got very personal, and personal apologies/amends need to be made.
I suspect that they're not expecting a post in /c/selfcrit anymore and probably have communicated that to Foucaults, but unbanning and rebanning to change the message to reflect the current situation feels like pointlessly dredging up drama, so they didn't change it to reflect the current situation.
