Hi everyone, this group has the goal of connecting people who want to exchange with penpals around the world. Please be mindful of the following rules:

  1. Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  2. Be nice. No harassment of any kind will be tolerated.
  3. Be mindful of sharing personal information.
  4. This group is for platonic friendships only.
  5. Posts should request email and snail mail pen pals only.
  6. No soliciting.
  7. Prison penpal ads are not allowed.

Have you seen the process for joining? Quite intrusive imo. Like I said in my post, I have a hard time seeing how you could sell the idea to someone that they have to join a new social media platform and on top of that, they have to provide id.

Agree with you that it’s a feature but my point is that feature might turn someone away when they see the requirement.

    Hello all,

    Just wanted to have a chat regarding Ganders' requirement for age. Has the process made you decide against joining?

    Personally, can't say I was very happy about providing my ID and face to get verified. It's also something that is a hard sell imo to get others to join.

    Do you think it is a necessary evil, in order to make sure that the social media is used only by adults?

    Any thoughts on the matter?

    Good morning all,

    First of all, apologies if this isn't the right place to post but I'm quite new to lemmy.

    I recently joined and noticed that c/canadiandeals was abandoned by its mods and was wondering what is the process to take over an abandoned community.

    Again, apologies if this isn't the right place to ask. But from what I read online, it's up to each instance to decide how they manage abandoned communities.
