From the moment she was rescued as an orphaned baby off the side of the road, Nibi refused to socialize with other beavers and even built dams to keep them away. As a result, she did not learn the necessary survival skills.

But she imprinted on her human caregivers. This led to a legal fight when the state wanted to forcibly release her, leading to the Massachusetts governor intervening in 2024 to keep Nibi permanently housed at the rescue.
