I suppose it will add exposure and possibly some funds but kind of bad timing since everybody smart is trying to leave Android next year.

Google is shutting those down, and further restricting the AOSP like it already did before when it stopped shipping device trees needed to build the OS for other devices.

The options on the table: linux is going to become a viable phone OS very soon as it already works well for physical sims for calling and messaging but lacks some app support, or people are going to start dropping smart phone usage, or otherwise we're all just going to surrender to technofascism.

My plan is to pick up one of those new Commodore flip phones. They have minimal screens for stuff like weather and texting and such, and they do mobile hotspot, so you can bring whatever portable system you like along with you.

But I do agree, there's a number of Linux phones already done, and anyone who understands this at all knows that Android is already Linux anyways, so at some point someone is gonna release a tablet-form, not-locked-down ARM machine that runs Linux, and many people will want it.

Well I guess here’s hoping that Linux becomes a viable phone OS I suppose. Unfortunately hardware is extremely expensive right now. Will be hard to switch from my well specced MacBook and my somewhat old iPhone to something Linux supported and a different phone.

TBH if you're comfortable using apple then none of these changes really effect you. I think it's stupid to sign up for mass surveillance and tracking, but you do you.

Look man everyone has to draw a line somewhere. Privacy is a spectrum and you can only hope to move closer to the complete privacy end. But I mean if you’ve ever used a credit card then you’re being tracked. Or really done most anything. If you’ve worked for the government you’ve been security cleared which means you’ve been essentially surveilled. I’m not saying I won’t eventually move to graphene/linux mobile and Linux on my laptop but ultimately existing in a society necessitates an amount of “tracking”. We’re both on social media right now leaving a trail of identifiable information by typing anything, etc etc

Cope Harder, Mate. When people google my name they don't find shit, and I intend to keep it that way.

You think my instance is selling my data to Google or Apple? You think yours is? None of my socials have any real information on them, any social media which requires identity verification is one that I instantly drop: most recently discord. I've been using the same email address for so long that I never even had to provide a phone number.

More importantly a soulless corporation doesn't track me home, to where I work, to where I buy food. It doesn't catalogue my personal relationships, my habits, my interests.

Any surveillance you're under is of your own choice, and it will come back to harm you some day.

    Issue #164191 | Conference talk

From what I gather, the direction is cross-platform support for pen + touch style tablet devices and not just android. I think it's a reasonable choice for first iteration if they have to pick one mobile OS with largest expected audience and donation gain.

Effort won't be wasted... I hope.

Tablet space, there aren't many options. I have an old octocore ARM Chrome tab running postmarket. It "works" apart from a camera and a few things. But that isn't a workable situation for many.

Give me a decent couple generation old SBC with 8GB of DDR3 and a 10 to 13 inch touch screen. Capable of using all onboard Hardware. Then we'll talk. I'm seriously looking at one of those old Lenovo Yoga laptops. As it's about the closest thing in concept that's actually affordable.

This is quite reductive of the situation. Android is not going anywhere, and neither are the third-party app repositories.

AOSP will be further restricted, but that really only affects anyone who doesn't use LineageOS / GrapheneOS / your favorite ROM. The Venn diagram people who care about side-loading, people who can't afford to switch to a supported device, and whose device is new enough to support the side-loading restriction is not zero, but they will be smart enough to go through the process of enabling side-loading.

I take exception to the headline; modeling is one of a large list of Animation related tasks that Blender is capable of.
