It's easy to remember because "queue" was spelled "cue" in Old French whereas "cue" was spelled "qu" (i.e. quando) when scribbled on scripts to indicate an actor's lines.

Actually, that might not help at all.

It's worse than that, because "to queue something" can mean "to add it to a queue" such as to the queue of music. In some music players, queueing a track while nothing is playing will also start playing it. So in that specific circumstance, the meaning is pretty much the same.

But the idiom is broader than that; you could say "cue man falling out of window" to mean that a man should fall out of a window right now. There's no queue of people falling out of windows, I hope.
