Detroit hasn't had a gm for two full months lmao. Edvinsson is an RFA and said that no one has even contacted him about his contract since Yzerman was fired (ahem promoted to senior advisor, sorry), so he's going to training camp without even having a contract with the team yet.
A couple days ago I opened the red wings subreddit out of morbid curiosity and the top post was about Adam Fantilli not being signed should we target him and all the comments were like "I really wish we had a gm so we could consider options like this". (IMO there's no world in which the cost needed to acquire him would be worth it to Detroit, but it's still objectively funny.)
I honestly wonder if the reason it's taking so long is that all the serious candidates are telling ownership that the current incarnation of the red wings cannot be saved and ownership is shooting down anyone who wants to begin their tenure with a Seider trade that nets an enormous haul. Part of the reason they're in this mess in the first place is because they refused to trade a young fan favorite with enormous value who was entering his prime when the team was a tire fire.
