    Grist is good, but it lacks the ability to reference other rows in formulas, bringing me back into Excel (LibreOffice Calc in my case) once again.

    I would love for someone to replicate AppSheet as an open-source project. So many of the app builders out there right now expect you to already have a firm understanding of how you’d go about building one of these apps from scratch.

    I really just want a sort of Excel+ with some prebuilt UI templates and search capability, but my search will continue to another day…

    I've made Excel do a lot of things it has no business doing, but it's best at being a spreadsheet. It will work for you as a database, until it doesn't. Use it for doing spreadsheet stuff. Keep your data in a database.
