Maybe I'm splitting hairs here but doesn't a "Sputnik Moment" require the nom-satellite-launching side to realize that they have some work to do? Because I don't think the US (or the West in general) have realized at all that there even is an intellectual gap to China (to the benefit of China) let alone that this could mean that there is work to be done.
