My favourite coffee shop loves ponies (especially the My Little variety) and the colour pink (most of their interior is pink), and it was in this coffee shop I first heard Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan. It's very much an LGBTQ+ rally song, but more than that, it is an outstanding show of vocal talent that is an absolute joy to listen to at high volume.
A lot of people in the comments are making connections to Queen's Freddie Mercury, who was also an LGBTQ+ icon, and a phenomenal singer, but other than that, I don't really see a connection. I would like to agree with them that Freddie would have loved this song. I know I do. There are a few of these songs I post where the guitar stands out, or the drums stand out. But this one, and a few others, it's the vocals I'm here for.
For some, this song endorses and justifies the way they live their life, and that's fine. It's not really my scene, though I did go to a few Pride events and had fun. What I'm saying is, you don't need a celebrity to endorse you or who you are or who you are trying to be. It's good to have a song or an event to rally around, but who you are is valid regardless of what others say, as long as you aren't harming anyone and you're taking care of your responsibilities. So, get out there and be you, wherever the music takes you.
