So if McConnell had to step down before today, it would have been a special election with Maisse eligible.

Now that it is not the case, how long do people think before he resigns or is ruled medically incapable?

Or do people think they'll just pull the plug?

Personally, I think they'll save it for when they need to distract from something. So it may be a week or two.

    Unless there is a particular quirk of Kentucky law I am not aware of, there is simply no mechanism where he can be ruled "medically incapable". This isn't Star Trek, there is no Dr. McCoy to tell us that Spock is in command now. If he is in a coma and can't transmit his resignation to the Senate, then tough luck, he can't be replaced until his term runs out.
