I have lots of old iPhones ( SE 2016, 6, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus) and they're all rotting in my drawer. Can they be used for something fun?

Why didn't you trade in/sell them. That's thousands of dollars down the drain.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

They’re only worth selling if it’s in perfect condition. Otherwise I suppose you can donate them

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Just keep them man. It’s a collection and memories. I’m using my first iPhone so don’t have any but my old android phone are still kept safely.

I use my 6S to connect and play music on my car music system with aux since it doesn’t have Bluetooth or apple CarPlay.

Go full circle and mount them on your wall as virtual switches to control your HomeKit lights. 🥴

Sell them to me

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

They make good ballistic armor 🤣

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Sell them on ebay

Where I live at, we wipe the phones then donate to women’s shelter or to abused people from bad relationships. You can use them for remote controls or do a hand me down to someone in your family.

Whatever you do with them, don’t update them to the latest iOS version. They’re much more valuable with an older one.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Only if you’re not using them as a daily driver, I guess.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Hello. Can you tell me why this is?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Jailbreak capabilities usually

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Of course. Can’t think why that didn’t occur to me. I’ve not JB’d a phone in so long, I think the last one I did was the 5 or maybe the first SE. I think I lost interest when untethered breaks stopped and it became a little more complicated.

If it’s a really old OS, people can be willing to pay more simply because they’re rare. Eg an OG iPhone with iPhoneOS 1 would be worth a ton of money now.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

not applicable because originals didnt have shsh blobs so you could freely downgrade to any version. 3g and onwards are rare on original though

Hello security holes

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I still use the SE as my whole phone sometimes. It's just such a good design.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

The SE 2016 is the most able as a back up.

Maybe use the others as a separate media device, like as an iPod.

You donate it to your neighborhood Witcher.

I use it as my camera for Zoom etc

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I use my 6s for Spotify because it has a headphone jack and the 6s DAC is not half bad at all.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Sell them

Configure some as iPod for childs

Keep one as emergency phone

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Only if it’s still LTE capable. 3G networks are no longer supported and I believe are just about all shut down.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

All those are lte

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Def still up just as 2g guesss what menos use for throttled data ?ok then

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

an iphone 5/5s/5c would do a good music player.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I have a 3g that i kid you not, is as useful as my 2nd gen ipod touch even down to the OS except the 3g runs worse on 4.2.1

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I’ve seen videos where you can set them up as security cameras

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

You can resell them

iPhones retain their value much more compared to Androids

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Any you wish to recycle should be handled responsibly. Apple Stores offer free recycling

You can purposely mess up government surveillance by tampering with their collected logs. First, log into two devices using the same iCloud account. Then, leave your old iPhone, with your registered SIM, at a different location. After that, connect your other device to WiFi. Messages from your iPhone will be forwarded to this other device, even though you're in a different location.

I have 5S 16GB, 5S 64GB and SE 32GB in my drawer. Soon 6S will join them, as i got new 13Mini to replace my 12Mini, that will go to my mother, that uses said 6S.

It kinda feels like waste, since all of them are in good condition (no cracked glass or big scratches to metal parts) and probably work as well (would have to check the 5S ones to confirm, but they worked fine, when we stopped using them.)

Third world country tip: always carry one so if you get mugged you give that one and they will believe it’s your main phone.

Also you can jailbreak one maybe? To play some old games that are not available on newests iOS?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

My main iPhone is an iPhone 7. I do everything with it, it's fast without many hiccups and I can even do light photo edits with raw files. The real question is what can't you do?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

My XR is my backup phone. My 7 was my backup until I bought my 15PM, once I had to use it. Just swapped the sim and went on my merry way.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I usually sell them so I can recoup some money when I upgrade. I sell them in private.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

sell use as backup give to family friends if they aren’t bad

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

You can turn them into security cameras. There’s an app called Alfred that allows you to set up the phones as security cameras and then the app on your phone you can view the streams. It works fairly well.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I have one that I use as a dash cam.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Sell them. All of these are worth at least 40 bucks.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Call and text. Take photos and videos, use “clownshoe-ish” Snapchat filters, and stream your favorite tv shows & movies.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

My family has Go Bags for emergencies. We put old phones in them.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

My old devices, Android and Apple are useful for creating alternative accounts for some games. Currently, I have 18 devices with SimCity Buildit loaded. I got bored with that never ending game so most of those devices are just turned off. The old smart phone with just 16GB are still able to call 911, the emergency number is the USA. I was able to donate a few to the women’s shelter so the victims of domestic violence could call the police at least.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

You could try eating them
