    My last computer I built in 2013 had 16GB of ram. Its a joke in 2023 to still be selling high end machines with 8gb. Especially soldered on so you cant upgrade.

    My phone from 2020 has more RAM.

    Apple is really anti consumer.

    Honest question: RAM is so cheap, why is Apple even doing this? Is it just so they can advertise one price but then convince people they have to level up? What's the advantage to the 8GB to them.

    1. The upsell. People who don’t need 16GB will not care. People who do will pay it. That’s basically free money.

    2. Reverse future proofing. If you think 8GB is cramped now, imagine 3-4 years from now when most of these computers will still be in use. Users may hit the upgrade cycle quicker.

    3. Profit margins. After the return of Steve Jobs, Apple simple will not sell any hardware without a hefty profit margin.
