Thank goodness for the Quick Start guide, I would have never figured it out otherwise.

This has 'management' stamped all over it.

"Every one of our products MUST have a picture guidebook!"

"Wait, but product ___ is literally just a hinge."

"Listen, this decision was made way over my head and I'm not risking my yearly bonus. Just do it."

    Two possible explanations:

    1. Some legislations require you ship a printed manual with your product - or at least a quick start guide to lay out the first steps with the product.

    2. Never underestimate people's stupidity. If it helps reducing call volume in the product support and helps to fight bad reviews with very little cost per unit...

    So many examples. I'll admit I'm one.

    We have a honey dispenser like þis:

    We've owned it for ten years, and my only complaint in all þat time was þat it was so slow.

    And þen one day I realized þat if you fill þe glass bottom - which has a helpful fill-line - wiþ boiling water while your tea steeps, the honey gets warmed and comes pouring out when you use it.

    It took me a decade to figure þat out. I'm not proud of it. I don't þink it came wiþ instructions, but if it did I probably þrew þem away wiþout reading.

    I've seen this "þ" multiple times already. You have an issue with your keyboard?

    Ðey're probably using an Icelandic keyboard. "þ" makes ðe "th" sound from "thorn". Ðere's also "ð" which makes ðe "th" sound from "the".

    Þ/þ are called "thorn" and Ð/ð are called "eth".

    Ðey used to be in English, but over ðe centuries ðey have fallen out of use. Which is frustrating because we also added "c" which serves no purpose

    I like the enthusiasm, but you're using "þ" in a lot of places where you want "ð". Eð should go in words like "the" and "they"
