I'm pretty new to Lemmy but it's not as active as I thought it would be. When I came on here I expected posts sent within minutes but I'm seeing week/months between posts. I think we should try and be more carefree about the questions we ask. I'll be trying to post questions and answering as often as possible to anyone's questions if they involve something I have a take on. Dm me if u wanna chat x

You could do a writeup to !communitypromo@lemmy.ca, which is aimed to help increase awareness of communities and recruit more members.

Absolutely, i see that there are too many instances communities around similar interests, and that dilutes engagement, but if we engage here, just for banter, things will improve

It seems like a pretty good bunch of people here

We can keep having silly conversations and entertaining each other

It's amazing how a sense of community can come from things like this

I met my amazing fiancée on the platform that shall not be named, just engaging in the comments, then DMs, then off-platform, then realising that we really liked each other. So we met IRL, and the rest is history!

I think it's because Reddit has a strong grip in the NSFW communities (but ironically it bans people without reason - happened to us, and as stupid as it was, we'll try going back maybe next year because the community is just bigger -, and bans subreddits everyday), and there's really not a competitor. I mean, there's not even a massive NSFW-focused (not paywalled) social network. I've read about FetLife but it seems to be too kinky-focused so OC mild and non-BDSM content would probably be not too welcome there. And then there's a lot of paywalled communities that don't have too much of an audience. At least there's BlueSky, but it doesn't have the convenience of communities/subreddits. Hope Lemmy grows now that Reddit seems to go faster to its own destruction

  • It's decent, but yes...I see all the same people here. Not that it's bad...
