Seems ok, but not ground breaking.

I think it's great seeing other company's ship Steam OS I exclusively only play games on my OLED Steam Deck since I bought it. Just simple download and play no issues but I am a outlyer I haven't used Windows in 15 years only Linux.

Having owned the original led and oled the oled is so much better visually and battery life.

It's night and day different isn't it? That 90hz display makes a larger difference than I expected as well, my partner's oled deck is way smoother looking on top of having nicer looking visuals (I'm a sucker for HDR). LCD is still an incredible device, especially if you get it at a discount like I did mine ($475 CAD all in is amazing value), but if you can afford an oled one, it's totally worth it.

They have oled refurbs now, which I'd totally do having had mine apart to do a clicky button mod, it's really easy to get into and easy to service.

idk why everyone is avoiding touchpads

Cost.

But not for us. For them.

Any heldhand without touch pads is basically useless, no? Why are they all going this route? Are those patented by valve or sth.?

Space most likely. They are trying to have a larger screen without increasing the overall size.

I think the touchpads are a good idea, but realistically speaking most games that are fun to play on a handheld don't need them.

Mh I don't know. Guess it depends on the game then. I play most games with the touch pads. Just so much better if configured right. The touch pads can also be used for abilities or menus or inventory slots etc. It gives the steam deck so much versatility. You can play everything from a joystick only game To mouse dependent games to shooter.

How would browsing the internet and general phone/PC uses compare to like a Asus ally vs GPD with a little keyboard? Could it replace a phone?

The lack of touchpads renders the desktop mode almost useless unless you add external peripherals.

These devices are big like a tablet and heavier than a tablet. To type on a tablet, you need to put it down on a table. Same here.

The Steam Deck touchpads allow you to type while you hold it.

What about like a win mini 4 where you get the keyboard built in then you don't need to sit anything down just thumb type. These seem super cool. I don't understand what a touchpad adds. Other than to mouse scroll. I assume the touchpad is like a laptop.

I have a GPD WIN 2. Very bad quality overall. It just died after 2 years I think. It won't even turn on when plugged. On top of that, that tiny keyboard is no better than the deck's.

Ouch. OK maybe not for me. The size and pocket ability paired with the ability to run Linux us what I want but I haven't ever had my hands on one to see how ergonomic they are compared to a tablet or small laptop. Thanks for the info. I'll source other ideas. If you got any feel free.

Typical China products' experience. Its spec looks good. I was tempting to get one. We barely have choices in laptop smaller than 10 inch.

Only offering the Z2 go and not the higher end extreme is a deal breaker for me, the wait continues
