I guess it sucks for some. But most people either had a spare power adaptor and few pair of earbuds lying around from earlier iPhones. The stock earbuds were not that great anyway. Many chose to buy better quality ones (either wired or wireless).

I can't remember the last time I actually used the power adaptor to charge from a wall socket. I usually charge my phone by plugging into a usb port on my computer, or the one built into my power recliner, or the one in my car. USB sockets are everywhere.
