I'm not into the culture so I didn't want to lean too heavily on this one source. It's good to have some corroboration!

he talks about it in this interview from 2010, a little more than halfway through the article. afaik, his use is where the slang originates.

Yep, sounds about right for the timeframe, my friends in HS listened to his music, I honestly don't know if they ironically liked it or not, it's not "good" but it was pretty funny.
