Japan produces a lot of rice but only ~7 million tons is distributed domestically.

    Sorry, I phrased that weirdly.

    Japan produces ~7.4 million tons of rice annually.

    Japan self sustains its rice needs with only ~7 million tons is distributed domestically.

    They also already have a waste repurpose project that eliminates ~2 million tons of their husk waste.
