I did a clean reinstall and YouTube will not play in the background or if I lock my phone. Also I still have the buffering issue at 1 min, usually it eventually plays back ~10 sec and is fine after that, but I have not found a way to fix this on YouTube nor on YouTube music. Any advice?

    For the 1min issue on yt you can change the Default Client setting to Android VR

    Not sure about yt music
