Aside from the obvious dysphoria related to hair length and gender perceptions (if you're a transfem egg, being expected to have your hair cut short, or if transmasc, being expected to keep it long), going to the hairdressers/barbers is an intensely gendered experience overall. Being perceived as a man results in wildly different treatment compared to being perceived as a woman in that environment, both in how your hair/head are physically treated/handled and in the social aspect of expected small talk/chatter. Many eggs and closeted trans folks find it an unbearable experience as a result.
