Just got slapped with a suspected epilepsy diagnosis last month, but that's what the epileptologist and EEG tech said I likely have. Only other option being considered is "really weird migraines" but the neuro said that's a big stretch. Likely insula and temporal lobe involvement based on symptoms.
My focal awares are either feeling like I'm suffocating while hallucinating profoundly nostalgic indescribable smells, or feeling like a silent gong went off in my head followed by intense deja vu/jamais vu. The impaired awareness one I had back in May was receptive aphasia - inability to reality check - blurry vision - loss of time (staring and fidgeting with my hair) - expressive aphasia - confusion. I've had a handful of others like the one where experienced time in slow motion, but the weirdest by far was religious ecstasy.
Thankfully the impaired awareness seizures are years apart. The focal awares happen about once a week. Both types were written off as silent migraines by previous neuros.
They started me on generic Keppra (500 mg twice a day) after my appointment last month. I've felt a few start but they didn't progress. These blips lasted less than five seconds, way down from the usual minute. So I can't speak to long term effectiveness. Keppra seriously nerfed my energy levels though, only in the past few days am I starting to feel like a person again.
