This community now exists. You're free to use it or not.

Sorry, no fancy icon or banner here. If you know you want to be here, you know you want to be here.

Thanks!

Edit: please read the sidebar for a clearer understanding of my intent with this community. I appreciate you swinging by, even if you're just visiting.

Edit 2: I've always hated communities that made you stick to a hundred different rules. But I do need to ask one thing of anyone who thinks they may want to stick around - and that is to read the sidebar in full, and understand it, and make your decision based on how you feel after reading it. This community won't be for everyone, and that's okay. I'd also like to say I really want this to be a kind-spirited and educational and fun community. Please, no jerks here. If you see a fight, try to break it up and keep the peace. If we're here, we're all here with the same goal.

Tl;dr: we don't do tl;drs here.

I don't know that it will turn out to be different in the way I'm hoping. That really comes down to the willingness of any posters to follow the spirit of the community.

If it remains idle or dormant for a while with no posts, I'll delete it.

The spirit of this community as I hope it to be, is one where there is no intentional loyalty to a brand or a service or a method or any other privacy related thing.

The goal is to, no matter the methods discussed, achieve the purpose of any privacy related post.

If it's not grounded in reality or is not true or is otherwise harmful, it is highly discouraged by the community.

That's my idea anyhow, I don't know if this is possible on a place like Lemmy, or perhaps on the internet at all...

    Okay, I'm with you.

One of the things that irks me about a lot of "privacy" posts is when they push some clearly vibe (AI or human vibes) coded project by someone who doesnt know what they are doing. To anyone who knows what they are doing sees its garbage, but if you don't know better it seems like a good idea.

Anything that is "recommended" really does need to come from someone who knows what they are talking about.

Hey, because you got here like one second after this community was created, while I hate to double post, I think it's worth telling you the sidebar is significantly updated and I'm not sure whether you'll still align with the principles and the vision for the community. You might though!

So yeah, check it out if you have some extra time. Ty!

Cool, then it's already more successful than I anticipated it to be...

Whether any posts roll in, that's another story. You'd think I might try to make the first real post but I'm not in the mood for that level of effort right now and posting fluff is against the spirit I intend.

Other than this particular post, of course. Anyway, glad to have ya here!
