My grandpa is ~10 years retired after working as a pharmacist his whole career. He's calling my parents every month, asking for help with his rent and groceries because he can't afford both at once with his retirement and social security payments.

Mind you, my grandmother did taxes and financials for small businesses, so it's not like my grandparents weren't set up. But my grandma's health went down, hospital bills ate all of their savings, and now that she's passed, my grandpa can't afford anything.

It's not so black and white as "save more and just be healthy". Not even close
