I didn't watch the video and there wasn't an article to accompany it, but I imagine the issue is the flooding of listings more than people purchasing these items.

I use Etsy for a vintage collecting hobby, so it's not so bad there (I set the filter for "vintage") but when I was looking for new things? Yikes. It's not really worth wading through the trash.
