Isn't the China that was our ally in WWII now actually Taiwan? Or am I misremembering the timeframe for the Chinese communist revolution?

    Technically no, as the KMT hadn’t retreated to/invaded Formosa yet. Both sides fought Japan: they held a shaky truce, the Second United Front, until the Japanese invaders were removed.
