Have you ever gone out for a steak or other pricey meal? You shit it out in the same toilet you do gruel, and gruel is cheaper, so I recommend eating gruel.

Their point is that you can't treat the 2 expenses as if they're equivalent. They get used a vastly different amount.

Also, generally you share expensive meals as dates, so that'd (presumably) be something they both enjoy
