Depends on the pistol, some of them have a magazine disconnect that prevents the pistol from being fired when there's no magazine in it.

Regardless, even if you're carrying, it's dumb to advertise it. It's dumb to carry without having a magazine loaded (one bullet is unlikely to be useful, even if something comes up) and it's dumb to have an open carry non-retention holster.
