I wouldn't tell people not to try just because they aren't running data centers. Other people see people trying then it inspires them to try, and seeing a bunch of people trying when others are rolling coal makes people act accordingly.
Would you go to a protest against a data center if the dude asking you didn't give a fuck and it was obvious? What if they were making changes to their lifestyle and trying hard too? It's more inspiring when people actually do what it takes.
But when you're in a culture where people just litter, you don't try because someone who seemingly cares also isn't trying. You don't want to be in a situation where everyone gives up, even those that care.
