As in:

you don’t think Russia should be there, helping military juntas? Agreed.
you don’t think Ukraine should be there? Hard disagree. They have a real strategic reason to be there (degrading Russia’s overall ability to project power globally), and are moreover helping rebel groups fight the military juntas that have swept into power in the last decade or so.

Not sure why you are emphasizing “smelly”; that’s weird and seems childish

You say this like the term is supposed to have some implied moral valence, like everyone is supposed to just hear it and think "bad guys"

But that's not the case. Why shouldn't Russia support African governments that invite them there?
