From Owl Rescue Centre

We received an anonymous call this afternoon regarding a roadside vendor attempting to sell four eagle owlets. When we arrived, the seller noticed "Owl Rescue Centre" written on our Hilux, quickly put two and two together, and took off.

My two colleagues and I followed. Uncomfortable with the pursuit, he set the box containing the owlets on the ground and continued ahead with his park run. All in all, it was a very pleasant rescue, not a single harsh word was spoken 😉

So are they imprinted now? I got to grow up around a bird of prey rescue and remember them using puppets to feed the baby birds. Could this guy have imprinted them

They will have to determine that. This rescue always seems to have a ton of owl since there only a few to my knowledge (2-3?) in the whole country, and a big one just shut down due to stress and lack of funds. I'm hoping they will be able to partner these little ones with their own kind so they can learn proper owl behavior.

We just released some turkey vultures that came to us as babies, and we had to hide our faces/profiles as they told us vultures imprint very quickly. I haven't had to do it with the owls yet, but they are usually getting care by the paid staff, so I will only see them when they get a bit past the imprinting stage of things.
