Where I bike, even when there's a separate path for pedestrians, they often just step out into the bike lane to walk around other people, often without looking.

I actually mostly prefer shared paths because an area with shared paths generally means traffic is a lot lighter, so it's easier to just go around a pedestrian, rather than deal with groups of pedestrians who may at any moment walk out in front of you.

No, they're a pretty good size I'm just in a heavy cycling neighbourhood. We often outnumber the cars.
