I've seen people arguing that the BLS wasn't a reliable source since 2008.

But I don't know how you get "I'm confident we have a 25% unemployment rate" from "I don't trust the numbers".

Agreed. I wouldn’t make a confident statement like that at all, it’s simply not possible.
