I read somewhere that Mick Jagger (or maybe it was Keith Richard) wrote the riff of Satisfaction in his sleep.

He woke up, grabbed a tape recorder and went "Bum bum. Bumbumbuummm bumbumbum." And sang the one line "I, can't, get noo, sat-tis-fac-tion." And then went back to sleep.

Forgot about it the next morning till they were at band practice and someone found the tape and played it.

I too have written down riffs from my dreams. Also I am not a famous rock star.

    Draw your own conclusions.

I'm struggling to determine what conclusion I'm supposed to draw

Satisfaction was a hit because Jagger has skill, not because he dreamt it.

I didn't say it wasn't both. If Keith didn't dream it, Mick's skill couldn't have made it a hit because it wouldn't have existed.

I'm trying to figure out what point you're trying to make and there doesn't seem to be one

That dreaming a riff is not difficult.
