A mid-high end server with 2TB of data will run around $50K right now. So $50M is 1000 baremetal servers. That's maybe 10 blade enclosures or 25 racks. I'm out of the loop on GPU build costs, but $50M is a drop in the ocean for typical data center spend at current memory prices. GPUs are even worse. And amazon is blowin through this budget so fast... here's some perspective:
AWS spent nearly $110B USD in 2025 on tech infrastructure. Let that sink in. Since people have a hard time with so many zeros...
If OpenAI spent $50M every week for a year, that's $2.6 Billion.
Amazon spendt $2.6B every 42 days on datacenters and the hardware that goes in them and will surely do well past that this year.
If 22 million gamers built a $5000 rig this year, Amazon would still outpace that in 2026.
Adding the obligitory fuck Sam Altman, but Bezos is on another level entirely of chicanery.
