Have to agree with you. While I’m not the biggest fan of Nexus Mods, I do think they’ve improved the modding scene overall. Before Moddb or Nexusmods, it was a total crapshoot whether you were downloading a mod or a virus, and if it was a mod then there was no guarantee that it'd actually work. And at least from my personal experience I've been able to do whatever I wanted with only the trouble of creating an account and logging in (which sucks I won't lie).

That said, I really hope they stick to their announcement and use it to actually make versioning integrate with their mods rather than use this as a cash grab to enshittify.

Agreed. IMHO Nexus Mods has improved since the takeover, so hopefully the same will happen here. I'm not against a site owner making money off of it, as long as it's done well and you get enough value in return. That's something entirely different than enshittification.
