It really gets me that life was plenty nice and convenient in the 70's when I was young with there being very little plastic. I really wish we could go back to that.

    I like describing the 70s as convenient, because to me it reads as "convenient enough." I just visited a recently renovated library and noticed curbside pickup spots (as in they run the books out while you sit in your car.) Outside of the disabled, do we really need that?

    I've been wondering to what degree we're addicted to convenience, and what the right amount might be.

    I think something being convenient is not bad though. Like what you mention either uses staff already working for the day or encourages hiring more and it frees up an aggregate of time among people to be useful if they are busy. That being said part of the fun of the library is exploring it.
