In the 2007 film The Mist, the titular mist is clearly shown to reduce visibility below 1 kilometre, to be a dense blanket of humidity, and is slow to clear, meaning it is not a mist but a fog. (thelemmy.club)

Originally it was published in 1980 as part of an anthology, but it was included in his Skeleton Crew collection in ’85.
