If a tumbler has anything other than water in it, dilution.

My point was to do with one reason cup sizes in the U.S. are larger: Americans typically use more ice than people in other countries. It's not there because it's water, it's there to keep the drink cold.

    Ice is water in solid form, when it melts it becomes water again. Ice displaces its own volume in water. If you have 30 fl oz of water and 10 fl oz of ice, and you leave it there for a while, you will have 40 fl oz of water.
