Maslow's hierarchy and all that. I wouldn't expect people to vote for much else than their material interests, perceived or real. Anything outside of that is a bonus that tends to be confined to smaller parts of society. Besides, voting third party when the third party is not using the electoral system for revolutionary purposes is considered pointless by some. Personall I think on the whole the DSA is doing the right thing given what the current env allows. Obv won't be enough for significant or lasting change but this wave is putting the dangerous thoughts in a lot of people's minds. We'll see where it goes in a few years time.
