▲ 102 ▼ Is the sh.itjust.works server's landing page image AI? Should it be replaced with human art? (thelemmy.club) submitted 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) by schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works to c/main@sh.itjust.works 45 comments fedilink hide all child comments Because I'd guess it is--a covered teacup with a misplaced handle, random "generic devices" scattered about, cables that go nowhere.... Any interest is an open call for a replacement image for the server?
[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works -4 points 6 days ago (4 children) You're asking artists to work for "exposure?" permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 8 child comments replies: [–] Dave@lemmy.nz 15 points 6 days ago (1 child) Something to remember is that the Threadiverse runs on unpaid labour. Someone donating their time to create art is no different to someone donating their time to run the server or develop Piefed ot whatever. There's unlikely to be any exposure from the art anyway, so any artist should only do it because they want to contribute to the ecosystem not because they think they will receive exposure in lieu of payment. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works -5 points 6 days ago (1 child) There's a difference between offering your own labor for free and asking others to donate their time for "exposure". permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Dave@lemmy.nz 2 points 6 days ago There's no exposure, you're the one suggesting that is the payment but no one is offering exposure, they are asking for volunteer help to contribute to a volunteer run ecosystem. Many instances ask people to give their labour for free without waiting for someone to offer. Lemmy.world ran a full interview process to appoint volunteer admins. permalink fedilink source parent [–] fake@sh.itjust.works 6 points 6 days ago This is only ever a problem when the thing they're being asked to do for 'exposure' is normal paid work. In this context nobody is being paid, their work isn't enriching someone else, they would be contributing like all the lemmy devs, the server operators and everyone else contributing to the operation of the site. Nobody's approached a specific artist and requested they do this for 'exposure', someone’s simply suggested that, oh hey, like everyone else that contributes their time to the site, maybe an artist would like to contribute theirs as well. Pull your head out of your arse. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Susaga@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 days ago* (1 child) I'm asking for the image to be replaced, and suggesting a way to do that. If we do that, and if there's compensation, can be a later discussion. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works -5 points 6 days ago That's a very long way to spell "yes". permalink fedilink source parent [–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works [S] 0 points 6 days ago (1 child) Are you offering to raise a collection? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works -3 points 6 days ago (1 child) No?
