Yeah, this is actually an argument that QAnon uses. All of those missing children must have been kidnapped by Satanists trying to get their adrenochrome or something.

What actually happens is the kid goes missing, the parent panics and calls the police...and then the kid shows up later, because they were off doing something that they forgot to tell their parents about (or didn't want to tell their parents about).
