Power not derived from the movement of animals is very new. The industrial revolution is what greatly changed the damage humans can do to the environment. The industrial revolution led to capitalism, not the other way around.

    I think the seeds were there long before the industrial revolution, like for example when you've got large segments of the population devoted to being agricultural workers on land they don't own.

    But obviously yeah I don't think you can get capitalism of the form and scale as we recognize it today without the industrial revolution and then the financialization of most lifeways available to workers
