it's easy to understand if you grew up in this country under similar circumstances.

when i was young, i remember feeling that my family was superior over every one else in my neighborhood because we traded in a car for an x386 w internet access and nobody else had any computers nor internet access, and the behavior of the others because of it reinforced that feeling for me. i imagine that owning the newest iphone is the modern day equivalent.

    yeah pretty much, the society here drills into you that owning more stuff is how you show you're successful
