Also when AI bros exclaim "I thought you free software advocates didn't like copyright".

The issue is the ruling class in control of this tech using it against the working class's interests. If we seized control (and became the ruling class to serve the people's needs), it wouldn't be a problem.

    Seizing control of it means developing open alternatives, making local models run better, creating tools for training models on distributed hardware, and so on. Sadly, I see very little of that happening. Pretty much the only reason we even have open models is because Chinese companies decided to start publishing their weights. The approach that western left is taking is directly leading to the worst possible outcome where this tech is only being developed by the corps.
